The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution, war or disaster at home.
Since 1950, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has been taking the lead in protecting people forced to flee wars and persecution around the world, providing life-saving aid including shelter, food and water to ensure their basic safety, rights and dignity.
With 16,803 women and men working in 134 countries, UNHCR works tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of 70.8 million forcibly displaced people worldwide.

What UNHCR is looking for in a candidate:
- Passion for humanitarian work
- At least an undergraduate degree from a UNESCO accredited institution (international staff)
- Successful completion of secondary education (general/field service)
- Relevant work experience and skills
- Proficiency in English and working knowledge of another UN language may be required
- Ability to work in diverse teams
- Willingness to serve in hardship locations/rotate from one duty station to another
